Standardized test scores do not always reflect the areas of weakness that parents and teachers observe in a child’s struggles with communication. In contrast, language samples provide real-life examples of a student’s communication skills. Evaluating a language sample based on the five foundational areas of language allows the educational therapist or other clinician to successfully analyze a student’s strengths and areas of need, and create targeted goals for intervention. Learn how to use therapy time efficiently and effectively to gain pertinent information on a student in 20 minutes or less.

Participants will be able to: use therapy time efficiently and effectively to gain pertinent information on a student’s communication skills; explain how the five foundational areas of language impact reading and writing; generate and analyze robust language samples in 20 minutes or less; and use language samples to enhance students’ goals and learning outcomes.
