Educational therapists benefit from awareness of the potential for harm in their professional relationships with teachers and schools. Using a case study and narrative format, this presentation will offer opportunities to consider real-life experiences and the complex dynamics involved in supporting students in relation to their school experience. By integrating foundational neurobiological concepts, including attunement and mindsight, participants will learn how to optimize the connection between clinical and classroom success for their clients.

Participants will be able to: identify and assess specific areas of school collaboration; support families and students in negotiating the school setting; develop plans to avoid potential pitfalls with teachers; and recognize constraints on the many stakeholders in a school.
